Broadcasting Classes

Since January 2017 Treasure State Radio has offered free broadcasting courses in person and via livestream. All classes and required software are free. Students do need pre-approval to participate and have a laptop available for classroom use. Students outside of Helena will need to have internet access to participate. To request participation, please email and put "Class" in the subject line. Include the student name, telephone number, and best time to be reached. An instructor will contact the student.

Broadcasting 101 - 8 weeks, Mondays beginning August 27. 6-8pm

This class is a requirement for most other courses offered. The course includes station software basics, Rules for digital, low-power, and full-power stations, content development, and voice-over skills. Homework is expected in-between class sessions.

Station Management - 4 weeks, Tuesdays, beginning August 28. 6-8pm

This course is designed for managers and those considering managing and/or owning a digital or low-power station. Course includes FCC and FTC regulation, Scheduling, software and library sharing options, cost management and sponsorship/underwriting/audience development.

Investigative Reporting 101 - 4 Weeks - Thursdays, beginning August 29 6-8pm

This course is the first of a four part series designed to develop unbiased reporting skills. Students IR 101 will learn issue layout, documentation, and often untapped reliable sources. Completion of or enrollment in Broadcasting 101 is required.
